Tip Toe If You Must…But Take The Step!

Do you struggle to find the motivation to start a new exercise or nutrition program? Do you want to change, but you don’t know how? Do your goals seem like they are out-of-reach? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then you’re not alone. I think it is important to dream BIG, but in doing so we need to understand that goals are not reached overnight…and it will require a little patience to reach them.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed and you’re not sure where to begin…just take a step. That’s it! All you need to do is start. I know it sounds so simplistic, but it’s truly the ONLY way to begin. If you want to create change, you need to move. You don’t have to burst out of the racing blocks to get started, but you do need to take a step…even if you tip toe or take baby steps. Eventually, the tip toes or baby steps will get bigger and the momentum will help to propel you forward…which starts to move you toward your goal (s).
If you’re new to working out (or coming back after a long delay) or you’re trying to change your eating habits, then starting off at a sprint will typically cause people to quit early on in their weight-loss journey. For instance, I remember when I was younger and we had to run the longer distances in gym class, I used take off sprinting and then I would quickly run out of steam and struggle to finish the race. However, once I learned to start off at a slower pace and build up speed, I no longer struggled to make it to the end. So, that same principle applies here. Focus on the starting line and create short-term goals. These small steps will eventually lead you to your long-term goal(s). So, go ahead and take the step…and tip toe if you must!
